Untitled 'O'

2016

Mixed Media

Interactive sound-installation

The installation aims to challenge the viewer’s perception by focusing on different interpretations of the idea of time and how it operates in space. With the idea of time in mind, and a focal point on the study of pure duration, an analysis of this theory has lead me to believe that time has no definitive meaning, but is the meaning humankind has attached to it is something constructed socially, culturally and scientifically around it. This installation explored an unconventional relation to time- one which is directly consequential to human intervention – this is explored through the mechanics of the work as well as the audio cue, borrowing the of a variable tempo from music.

Whistle

2016

Concrete & Brass Piping

Wind-Triggered Site-Specific Installation

Whistle was an intervention by means of a semi-permanent sculpture which was a comment on the current state of the socio-political environment of an educational institution.  Mounted on the pillars at a local college, the wind triggered sound sculpture aimed to emphasize the feeling of despair on entering the premises. This is represented through the gargoyle like stance- forever trapped as part of the building, as well as with the sphere passing through the head of the sculpture- which represented the unconscious unspoken thoughts of the student. When in contact with a specific directional position of a gust of wind, the sphere echoes a slight hum, however, this is never loud enough unless it is heard as a collective body.
